How A Modest Budget Can Bring Luxe Looks To A Nursery

Budget friendly looks and aesthetic. Seems like an oxymoron, right? Well I’m going to break down how to find everything you need for below $1000 dollars on a modest budget when furnishing a nursery...

The first step is to decide what you want your nursery to look like.  Instagram and Pinterest are an awesome place to source inspo photos - and you can check out our reviews page to see some ideas from real moms who have decorated their nurseries with our products!

The easiest way to create a cohesive second hand nursery is to base your design off of a colour palette.  The most popular nursery colours are green, greys, beiges, pinks and yellows -  so you are likely to find more items to fit your style from those colour categories.

You could also try using a theme to decorate your nursery.  Try choosing something easily identifiable, like farm house decor or a nautical theme.  The most popular nursery themes for 2022 are bohemian, star themes, woodland, and vintage.

Many of our littles have older siblings that can pass down furniture pieces like cribs, change tables and dressers but if this is your first and you’re operating on a tight budget - here are some ideas:

  1. Check out Facebook Marketplace
  2. Check out Kijiji or similar websites
  3. Check your local buy nothing or freebie page
  4. Mom and Parent groups/swaps
  5. Ask your family and friends for hand-me-downs
  6. Recycling centres

Babies grow up FAST!  There is a quick turnaround on a lot of the products that you’ll likely be looking for and you can find really quality brand name pieces second hand.

Go easy on yourself - if you can’t find pieces that match exactly consider painting them in bold accents colours pulled from crib bedding for example.  This will help create dramatic statement pieces while the coordinating colours create a sense of fluidity in your design.

You truly don’t need too much to get started!  We are working on putting together a list of nursery essentials for you so stay tuned for that!  Don’t forget that less is more.  It is so easy to go overboard when designing your dream nursery - but it is also easy to create clutter.  It’s not about how much you have in your nursery- it’s about how you tie everything together!

When thrifting pieces make sure you pay attention to the care of the items.  Are they damaged beyond repair?  Is there mould?  Mould is extremely dangerous to a babies respiratory system (not to mention your own!) so I have always erred on the side of tossing or passing on those items.  Your health and your babies health is always the most important!

Don’t be afraid to say no!  Often times you will be FLOODED with moms trying to offload baby items on you (I know because I am one of those moms!)

If you’re offered things that you feel are too big for the space or don’t fit your vision feel free to express that.  I would recommend offering the information of a local charity or organization that assists families in your community so the items can be passed along to someone who could use them!
